  1. I have heard that it's possible to burn a back-up to DVD-R or +R using DVD-Rom bit setting.... Anyone here heard of this ? Supposedly it produces a much better burn and quality is better...

BTW - I meant to post this in authoring section.

AFAIK, bitsetting only applies to DVD+R and DVD+RW. It doesnt do anything for burn quality/speed or otherwise.

All you can do is bitset the disc as a DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD-ROM etc. book type. This is to ensure compatibility for older drives and players. Read a few guides or explanations on this site. Its been covered a number of times before.

Also, not every drive is capable of bitsetting. Only a few can. The DVD-writer tab on the left will allow you to search those capable of bitsetting.

  3. Thanks porphyra !!!

I did check the guides first, and did not see any topic that covered DVD-Rom bitsetting. However I should have searched the forum....

I heard (rumor) via e-mail that DVD-Rom bitsetting was the best way author, just as good as the original disk, can help you shed 15-20 lbs in less than two weeks, and help you quit smoking.....

I'll just stick with my DVDShrink - has never let me down yet !!!

    LOL..

Bitsetting has nothing to do with authoring. It just applies to setting a booktype while burning. Its really quite useless if you have newer hardware.

  5. All this does is trick the DVD player into thinking it has a dvd rom.
I remember reading some professional tests on this, and even though setting the bitsetting to dvd rom enabled some dvd players to accept a disc they would otherwise reject, those discs still showed playback problems in those playrs.

I would say bitsetting is very useful,my dads new apex can now play all dvd+r backups and burn quality is what affects playback so i think the bitsetting tests are subjective to what dvdr you use to burn with.
    I think,therefore i am a hamster.
