    You should be able to tell straight away just by the look and size of the file if you go into the tools section you will find analyzers like G-Spot.

    AviCodec will do the job. G-spot doesn't specify mpeg-1 or mpeg-2, not mine anyway.

    Hi JackMartinEF,

    Use AVICodec as that works with MPEGs too.

    Look under the blue "VCD" for the MPEG1 specs, and the "SVCD" / "DVDR" links for the MPEG2 specs.

    From these specs, you can tell whether it's MPEG1 or 2. That said, AVICodec tells you anyway, but I guess it's extra info that might be useful...
