  1. I've converted a XVid endoded avi into Mpg. the MPG plays perfectly on my PC but once I burn it onto CD using Nero the audio is out of sync. I used TMPGEnc and extracted the audio into a Wav file before converting it. Any ideas?

if you follow this link there is a guide on this site for audio sync problems
https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/140540.php otherwise use the source range in the settings/advanced section of tmpgenc but that can be a bit hit and miss really if there is a big gap between audio and video

  3. There are two very common types of sync issues that most people complain about. First is the gradual loss of sync as the disc plays. This one can be a serious pain to fix, and since I've never had to deal with this I'm afraid I won't be much help.
Second is the audio and video just being out of sync by a few seconds or whatever right through the entire disc. This one is easy to fix. Under setting in TMPGenc click the advanced tab and then choose Source Range. Down at the bottom of that screen you will see the option "Audio Gap Correct". Entering a positive number will cause your audio to move ahead. The higher the number the further ahead of the picture the sound gets. Entering in a negative number will have the opposite effect.
If your audio is a second behind enter in 1000, if 2 seconds 2000. If the audio is ahead of the picture by a second entering -1000 will eliminate the problem.

  4. Is the audio out of sync from the beginning, or does it drift over time?

I have written my technique for avoiding sound sync problems using virtual dub (a little time re-encoding the sound often saves ages of time).

Please see my mini-guide on the topic below.

I virtually always follow this routine now and cannot remember the last time I got sync problems.
