I'm consistantly getting bad sound from my line in on my motherboard so I'm considering installing a sound card and seeing if that will help.

Has installing a sound card helped anyone else out there who has had a similar problem?

    Thanks, Randy

If your on-board sound card is not performing to the expectations you may install a PCI card to address it (if this is a hardware, not driver issue) but don't forget to disable on-board sound in BIOS. I use on-board sound most of the time (works great for me) but have another card installed as well for some tasks. No conflicts if one is disabled.

  3. Most on-board sound cards are ok for general use, but if you are going to be recording sound for DVD authoring it would not hurt to upgrade to one that has more options (such as surround sound). I've had two computers that had on-board, one had a Yamaha configuration that was great. The other had something that was horrible. Do a little research. Google several brands to see what the users are saying about them.
If it works, don't fix it.
