When I capture using vdub and try to edit in vegas, the video is a complete distorted mess. I am going to assume this happening because vegas only accepts one type of avi but vdub is generating the other type (1 and 2?). Which avi is being output by vdub and how can i convert this to get it into vegas for editing? Is there a loss of quality on the conversion? Is there a better way?

Using vdub, what filters would you apply to good-great quality captures. The source is Hi8 using new tape and decent lighting. The footage is of my bro's new son in the hospital. I just want to do a small bit of editing and put it all on DVD for him and his wife.
I may be wrong but I think I remember reading sonewhere on here that any capture could use a noise reduction. If this is true, what filter would be my best bet and at what settings? Any other filters you might use?

Thanks for your time.
