  1. Alright, I intend to backup a DVD video onto a DVDR, I know I must reincode the video in MPEG2 so that it will fit on the 4.7GB DVDR media. My question, is how is this done in TMPGEnc? The DVD(NTSC) template is 29.97fps as well as CQ(constant quality), and 224kbps 48KHz audio. Aren't DVDs 23.97 fps (FILM)? So souldn't I use that? My main consern is the CQ stuff, can I switch it to 2-pass VBR? I'm guesssing I can, but I'd rather not waste any DVDRs. I'm gathering 48KHz 256kbps or more wouldn't be a problem, but what kbps audio should I use to retain DVD quality audio? Thanks for any input you provide...

  2. DVD Audio Quality depends, the best way is to extract it with DVD2AVI (demux all tracks) and it will give you the bitrate in the filename of the AC3 track it produces, it's usuall 192 (or 96) for stereo and 384 for Dolby surround, though that can change. The video can be 23.97, 29.97 or 25 depending on how it was encoded (again DVD2AVI will tell you). You could switch to 2 pass VBR but then the resultant file size may be unpredictable, it's up to you.
