I backed up a movie and i think i choose the wrong one or something and all i have is the directories commentary, no regular audio.
Should i just leave all of them all the time? or is there a way of knowing which audio stream is for what?

    thanks

In the latest versions of shrink when you preview the movie you can right click on the preview pane and select from the audio streams, be careful though as most computers wont output dts.

As I read your question, I do not believe the earlier replies truly gave you an answer...

You asked: >>>>or is there a way of knowing which audio stream is for what? <<<

There are ways of knowing, but it may depend on your equipment / setup.

For example, do you have DVD playing sofware on your PC? If so, some of them will let you display which audio track is being used, while you listen to it. Mine does this (PowerDVD). So, I can simply jump over to play the DVD on my PC, and then right click on the film, while it is playing, and while I listen to the sound, and tell it to turn on the "display" feature. It will show me things like the Title, the chapter number, and the particular audio number "audio track 1, audio track 2, etc.) This "audio track number" will correspond to the audio track number you see back in DVD Shrink. Once you know which one is which, you can always make the correct decision.

My standalone DVD players also will let me see the number of the audio track. Mine are Panasonic players, and when I hit the display button on the remote, I can then scroll to the small "speaker" icon, and it will show me if it is number "1," or "2," or "3," or "4" (etc.) I can also hit the audio button on the remote, and see this same info. Most players have a similar function, somewhere.

DTS is easy -- either your equipment will play it, or it will not. However, I have seen some DVDs which may have as many as three, or four, or five different ACS 2.0 tracks. I know of one that has three 5.1 tracks. It can be confusing. Which one to choose?

Some people keep them all. However, if you are like me, you are often trying to use as little compression as you possibly can, to maintain maximum picture quality. So, getting rid of unnecessary stuff can be critical.

I, too, once chose the wrong track, and ended up with only a director's commentary. I was burning a backup for a DVD I own, to be used in my wife's minivan. It (her van) only has 2.0 channel stereo, so I chose to only keep the 2.0 channel audio track -- there was only one. This turned out to be the Director's commentary. The only other audio track on that DVD happened to be the 5.1 track. I had to go back and re-do the entire thing, and choose the 5.1, since it was the only track with the actual dialogue of the film (!).

    Hope this is of help.
