  1. Hi, i am a newbie (ish) to this encoding stuff and i need someone to help me convert. I want to convert this:

    ac3 (0x2000) Dolby Laboratories, Inc

    to this:

0x0055(MP3) ID'd as MPEG-1 Layer 3 (if it helps both are Xvid but u probably know that already )

and i am not sure how. i have tried looking around on the internet and cannot find anything, just guides about how to convert them the other way around. Reason being, my standalone doesnt seem to like this ac3 codec and prefers the MP3 audio and will play it correctly, whereas when the ac3 codec is burnt it just constantly jumps and is completely unwatchable (or unlistenable).

    Thanks for any help,

    Regards,
    Danny

  3. Install the Lame MP3 ACM codec. You'll also need the AC3 ACM Decompressor.

Open the Xvid in Virtualdub. go to audio menu and select full processing. set compression to Lame MP3 and Conversion should be whatever your player supports for sample rate. I don't have a stand alone Divx player so I'm not sure right off. DVD audio is at least 192kbps at 48000 but you may need to use something like 128kbps 44100 which is standard CD sample rate. Go to the video menu and set it to Direct Stream Copy. Now file menu and save AVI. it should directly copy the video and and convert the audio to MP3.

You can check the resulting file in Gspot to make sure all went correctly.
