  1. Basically I'm looking for a VCR which has SVHS output via s-video so I can trail it to my PC's TV capture card. I don't want composite, I'd like s-video.

So obviously I need a VCR which has this output, but the only one I can apparently find in the UK is the JVC effort from Argos http://tinyurl.com/3gu5j and a few other outlets. I'm not even certain that this *outputs* SVHS in s-video format via an s-video socket, just that it has SVHS format.

Having just checked the manual, it doesn't have an s-video socket. It merely has 2 SCART sockets - I have an adapter which plugs into SCART and converts it to s-video output - would I get colour on my PC or black and white like my current non-SVHS vcr?

Thing is it's £120, and I wouldn't mind getting one for a bit less than that.

If it does the trick, and I can't have one for less than that, then that's fine. But I would like to know that it indeed does what I need.

    Any ideas?

On most (European) JVC SVHS you can define the extra SCART socket to have S-VIDEO or COMPOSITE out. (At least my crappy JVC can do that)

But the quality improvement for a S-VIDEO out will not be that great if using it with normal VHS.

  4. Cheers guys:

Everclear - on the same VCR?

The_Doman - I won't be using the SVHS to enhance VHS tape output, it's more for recording live broadcast from my VCR on my PC.
As for the option between composite and s-vide, that's great, very useful

  5. No not the same but I have two different vcr's a Sharp and a Panasonic and the adapter works fine on both of them

Danny, www.be-direct.co.uk have that model for £110 incl delivery and another one at £140 that seems to be a lot better and has the s-video out socket.

  8. Cheers, but wouldn't buy second hand. Actually, just wouldn't generally buy from eBay either.
But, *are* both your VCR's svhs?

    110 is already pushing it
Less cost is better - thanks for the heads-up though

You'll be hard pushed to find a new VCR which has the conventional s-video (penny sized) connector nowadays, I went through this very same thing a couple of months back on this very forum.
All you need is a scart connector with the composite connectors but obviously with the s-video penny-sized port too.
