  1. What a pain in the ass.
At first I placed the blame squarely on my 4 year old twins' shoulders figuring they they got in my room and turned it off. Not the case. It only seems to happen when I encode with TMPG (2.58 I think). I've been doing this for months and my computer is not even connected to the internet. So there is no chance of viruses or anything. I booted it up the other day and played a DVD all night and it was still on when I woke up. I then used WME to encode and nothing happened either. It just locked up 16 minutes into an encode with TMPG. After such lockups, the only way to recover is to power off and back on. Anyone else seen this?

*edit* Uh oh. I wonder if these power supply numbers have anything to do with it:
    3.3 VDC= 3.18
    +12 VDC= 10.52
    -12VDC= 11.82

I think I'll just turn it off now before I destroy any of my drives...

I would say you are spot on.

  4. Or it might be overheating (the CPU) that would explain your symptoms even more precisely.. tmpgenc is more cpu intensive than wmv. Power off and on allows cpu to cool down enough to run. SO its probably borderline Hot.

The electronic components of the power part adopted a lot of Rubycons.

Yeah, that 10.52vdc is definately going to cause problems on a 12vdc line. A new PS is cheap, but go for a name brand.

  6. Well, the best I could do for a brand name was a 400W "Mets." Such is life in a small town here in Japan.....
