I've encoded a few AVI files to Mpeg 2 which I believe is a standard DVD format using Tmpge but for some strange reason they all stutter. Thinking it was Cpu not up to speed I upgraded everything to-
AMD Athlon 2600xp +
512 DDRam
New board
(Basicly it got the works)
but it still does it, has anybody any suggestions that could solve this problem I got?

I'm with Foo on this one , It sounds like you have an NTSC source and are converting to PAL and getting the usual judder .
A little more info on your source file and intended output would be helpful. -
A slow CPU will only increase encoding times, not affect the quality of the output. So for anyone else... cross that off your list of possible problems.

Yeh the source AVI File is in NTSC format and I'm trying to convert to PAL
Details are -
Image = 560 x 240 pixels
Audio
Bit Rate = 135 kbps
Audio Format = Mpeg Layer 3
Video
Frame Rate = 23 Frames/Second
Data Rate = 130 kbps
Video Sample Size = 24 bit
Video Compression = XVID
Hope this helps to sort out this problem I got, only strange thing it converts to VCD & SVCD with NO Problems. -
try defragging your drive. you'd be amazed the diff it can have. start with the quick win first! then listen to the geeky fixes

Proper NTSC to PAL conversion is a major headache.
Most UK players are happy with NTSC so try conversion to NTSC Mpeg , Burn it and try it on your standalone to see if it plays OK.
I always Keep NTSC as NTSC and PAL as PAL . No playback problems and no juddering .
I am assuming of course that you are in UK or Europe.
Just select the NTSC template in TMPGenc , don't forget Keep aspect ratio and encode. -
Thx Andy will try that any idea which is the better version of TMPGE ? & what is the best settings ? ie is there any Enviromental control adjustments to make for the xvid encoding?
-
I use TMPGenc Plus . The only enviromental setting is to set the DirectShow Multimedia File reader to a higher priority. See pic.
-
Yes , I have TMPGenc Plus 2.5 Ver 2.520.54.163 and never had a problem with it . and I do use it a lot.
-
Just downloaded the same version to try it out fingers crossed it works!!!!!
Will keep you advised
thx
