What is the difference between RGB and YUY2? Does it affect output results when using filters in RGB or YUY2?

The difference between RGB and YUV is that
RGB picture/video encodes pixels as a function of the basic colors (Red, Blue, Green)
YUV format encodes pixels as a function of luminance (~ brightness) and chrominance (~color balance).

Put simply, the YUV format has one value for the level of light and two more values for the difference between the three colours.

If you wonder why go into the fuss, the reason is simple.

The eye is more sensitive to light changes than color shift. That means that encoding an image/video should (or can) have a bias towards light level.

YUV permits to encode image using more bits for luminance compared to colours, while RGB is plain 3-bytes per pixel.

Yes, the format of the image is crucial for some of the codecs or filters.

Theroretically (provided you have a tool - but I can't think of one at the moment) you could convert a video from YUV format to RGB format and vice versa and use the filters you want. You can certainly do that for picture with Photoshop.
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.
