  1. Captured mpeg2 files with leadtek winfast expert play fine with neroshowtime or ati file player but when I author with tmpgenc the audio goes out of sync after 10 minutes of playback and gets worse as it progresses. Is this a known issue and is there a fix for this? I'm using the latest drivers and winfast pvr from leadtek's site. Thanks for any input

Many times a capture MPEG will be OK when played on the PC but go out of sync after authoring. Unfortunately it can either be a hardware problem or a software problem.

What is your source material? If it's tape, I suspect that's where the root of the problem is. Tape captures are notorious for causing sync issues. Also, software can cause dropped frames as can IRQ sharing and PC speed issues.

Maybe if you provide more information someone can offer a suggestion.

My source is either digital cable or analog tv. I switched from an aiw radeon to winfast. All my mpeg captures (in the hundreds) from the same sources with ati were authored by tmpgenc without any sync issues so this is a leadtek problem.

  4. Your system specs are more than capable of doing the job - nice rig actually. Could I ask which of the Leadtek cards you're using?

Also having one of the Leadtek cards myself, I know one can capture - DVD NTSC or MPEG2 (Normal, Good or Optimal quality). I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. Which one of these do you use?

winfast expert 2000. I made a copy of dvd template with a lower bitrate and dvd medium for my capture settings. I've used direct burn in the past and the resulting dvd doesn't have sync issues.

Try loading the MPEG file into VirtualDubMod and check the frame rate to see if the video and audio match ... both should be 29.970fps

If not then maybe you can demultiplex and adjust the audio to match using a WAV editor or perhaps even BeSweet.

Then multiplex and double check again in VirtualDubMod.

  8. I've noticed this does not seem to be a consistent problem the only time the synch issue occured was when the file was captured in the background when my wife fast user switched to her desktop. My theory is that leadtek compensates dropped frames by " padding" the file. When the file itself is played back there are no problems but authoring results in the padding being removed from the file with resulting sync problems. Earlier versions of ATI MMC used to have this problem.
A file I captured yesterday authored without any sync issues after authoring. Winfast expert is a resource hog even with my system, tv viewing is about 20% cpu usage(5%with ati) and mpeg capture is close to 50% (25% with ati aiw). If you have a less powerful system leadtek may be " padding" your file to compensate for dropped frame rates.

Well damn thank you for wasting our time ... I mean really now!

    Video Capture 101
Do NOT do anything else when you are capturing.

Kick your wife upside the head for me!

I could multitask with capture using AIW Radeon without any problems with the captured file that's why this threw me off.
