It seems Netflix has a new policy to increase turnaround time. In my case it takes two days to recieve a DVD they ship. But it takes 4-8 days for them to recieve a DVD I return and they never ship the same day,it's always shipped the following day. This way they reduce the number of DVD's you can rent per month.

Yeah, I'm feeling the same way about Amazon. Their shipping practices have really gone down the crapper. They used to ship my items UPS. Now only huge packages are sent that way. The rest are shipped regular mail. Used to take a day and a half from when I ordered to when I got my shipment. Its been a week and a half and my latest order hasn't even shipped yet.

  3. netflix is terrible. They use to be great. I have an opposite problem. For the last couple of months they have been delaying in sending my titles out. When they get a shipment back for example, they will show my next titles being shipped. Say they get back two movies on Monday, they'll show my next two going out on Monday, or "maybe" that Tuesday. That's how it was in the beginning. Lately they've been horific. The next titles have gone from saying "shipping Monday" to "Shipping Tueday" then "Shipping Wednesday" and if you can believe this, it then goes to "shipping Thursday" and then, yep, you guessed it, "Shipping Friday!" I have had this happen on several occasions and not only called them about it but wrote them a letter. I also demanded a credit and the address for corporate head quarters where I also sent them a letter.

I'd suggest you do the same. Maybe if enough people complain, they'll change their business practice. The next time that crap happens again, i'm cancelling my account and disputing my last few charges with my CC company.

What makes the problem even worse is that they don't ship on Saturdays. I'm very sure that's also to decrease the amount of disks people get. In the U.S most businesses operate on Saturdays. The post Office certainly does. I guess the next thing will be netflix not shipping on Fridays, and then Thursdays, and then Wednesdays. Heck maybe they'll start delivering on Mondays only!

  4. just as i was quitting netflix, they started doing this. when i had first started up, i hate it going really well.

monday - netflix sends me 3 movies
tuesday - i recieve 3 movies, i send them back out
wednesday - netflix recieves 3 movies, sends 3 more
thursday - i recieve 3 movies, i send them back out
friday - netflix recieves 3 movies, sends 3 more
saturday - i recieve 3 movies, i send them back out
    sunday - in transit, etc.
monday - netflix recieves 3 movies, send 3 more

    rinse & repeat

it was working out really great, then they started their delay tactics.. i would send movies back to them at the same time and they would "recieve" them on different days, and then delay a day or so to send me more movies.. once that month was up, i dropped them.

I haven't experienced this problem at all. I guess it doesn't hurt living in one of their distribution cities (Kansas City). If netflix sends me on monday, I'll get it tuesday or wednesday. They usually receive it a day or 2 after I send it, and they always send the movies out the next day.

I am quite satisfied with the service I am receiving.

  6. I wanna to move to the location Jeex is in 8)

I'm lucky if I get 3 in one week.

I've tried other online rentals (more and more are popping up) but I gotta say out of all of 'em, Netflix offers the best service.

I think the shipping delays are due to where the DVDs are being shipped from - they have closer locations, but they don't all stock the same titles, or those titles are all rented out at that time...so they'll ship from the other.

I've noticed the delays being more frequent in recent weeks...so sounds like there's something up with that.

Also can't stand that they are closed on weekends - that always delays the next set of DVDs.

Out of the others I joined, Walmart are the only ones opened on weekends, but they are twice as slow as Netflix. They also don't replace discs that are damaged in the mail. If you recieve a disc with a crack and report it...they do nothing about it. You just have to wait til they get it back...then you can add it again to your list...but you get one less movie for that week.

Still, I think the DVD rentals are much better setup than renting VHS cassettes through the mail - each tape is between $7 - $10 each.
Not worth it unless it's something extremely rare that you're trying desperately to track down.

For the most part, I stick with local rental stores.

  7. Netflix has worked great for me so far. I live a few hours away from a distribution center. Here's my schedule:

    Monday: Netflix sends 3 movies.
Wednesday: I receive 3 movies. Watch them, and send them back.
Friday: Netflix receives the movies and sends 3 more.

Next Monday: I receive 3 and send them back.
Next Wed. : Netflix gets 3 and sends out 3.
Next Friday: I recieve 3 and send them back.

Once in a while, a disc will ship out a day later, but it's all good I figure. More goodies in the mail to look forward to, and better planning for my moviewatching.

  8. I've been getting screwed as well with them. Distribution center is in Denver.....I am about 3 1/2 hours away from there......so I give a day or two for shipping which im fine with.

I also personally drop them off at the post office so I know they go out that night....I do it early in the day and take it to the main post office where everything is sorted and shipped from so there isn't a delay in transit and sorting from a local postal branch.

I used to be able to get 6 dvds in a week. 3 at the beginning of the week and 3 at the end.

Now I get 3 on monday........send them back that day.........then don't receive my next 3 until monday of the next week.

I am going to write a letter and either demand credit or better service or I won't be a customer of theirs much longer.

They used to be great but now I am starting to hate them. Not worth 20 a month.

well i have the gold platinum plus plus complementary reach around plan and ive noticed a difference lately. im in vegas and the center is in so cal, i drop my movies in the main postal office RIGHT NEXT TO THE AIRPORT. dont tell me it takes 3-4 days to get to so cal. think ill write a im pissed off letter too....

  10. i am only 50 miles away from the distribution center.. and the movies were flying back and forth.. then suddenly, for the last 2 weeks EVERYTHING is delayed? i dont think so, they were doing something intentional.
    Quote Quote
  11. Unfortunately for me, unlike the last person, this has been happening for months now. Sometimes it is worse then other times. But I believe the reason netflix is doing this is to get people to "up" therr accounts. I've been with them a very long time and i'm pretty sure they didnt have a 4 or 8 out @ a time plan then. I think they figure if they delay enough, you'll just give in and pay more for more movies. They probably don't like the idea that some of us live close enough to a distributon center and can get 2 or like jeex even 3 sets of movies a week. But that is not our problem.

According to jeex, he was getting often times 9 movies per week on a 3 out at a time plan. That's great for him but i'm sure netflix said, uh uhhhhh, no way, we're gonna make it so he only gets so many movies per week. If he wants more, make him up his account. If that happens to me once more, my account is cancelled immediately and i'll get the last 3 months charges from my CC company reversed.

I have not noticed any delays with netflix. They have always been prompt. Now Walmart was a different story. They took twice as long as netflix. Had to kick that account to the curb. I hope netflix doesn't have a surprises waiting for me.

  13. Well, it looks like our suprises aren't over yet.

I emailed Netflix, just to see if I would get a service response or an automatic response from the computer........not sure which one I got but it did have some interesting information in it. Here is what it said:

We hope you're enjoying the convenience and selection of Netflix. Our goal has always been to offer a great service at a great price, and we're dedicated to bringing you the largest library of films delivered quickly to your home.

Since launching our service almost four years ago, the subscription rate for the 3-at-a-time program has never changed. We've added more than 20 distribution centers in order to provide one business day delivery to most of our members. We've also expanded our library by thousands of titles and now offer more than 18,000 to choose from. During the four years, improvements such as these, as well as postal rate changes, have increased the cost of doing business.

Beginning June 15, 2004, we will be raising the prices of all our subscription programs. Your plan, the Netflix 3-at-a-time program, will change from $19.95 per month to $21.99 per month.

We believe our service offers an exceptional value and hope you'll continue to enjoy the benefits of Netflix at the new price. We realize that you have many home entertainment choices, and we appreciate your business.

    Yours Truly,
    The Netflix Team

******* BULLSHIT.......they are now raising prices for a service that isn't even close to as good as it once was. Think I will be cancelling my account but not until I send a good old hand written letter to them.

What about you others.....gonna stick with it? I know it is only 2 dollars but the service is going to continue to suck.

  14. wow, netflix really has a sack. I haven't gotten that email yet but i'm guessing I will soon. I doubt i'll be with them much longer anyway. They really have gotten terrible. With all my complaints, I even forget to mention that just like jeex, I also have seen netflix "on many" occasions "claim" to have received only 1 of the movies I've sent back when I sent back 2 or 3 at the same time.

At one spurt it got so ridiculous, I started stapling all two or three movies together so they couldn't try that again. That worked because they always received multiple titles at the same time when I did that. I've already written my letter hatz, but you might want to link this post in your letter. Doesn't seem like the people in corporate at netflix are too bright. Their service has gotten lousy and there are more and more competitors for online movie rentals then ever before. Netflix is going downhill. They better re-think their price increase, and change that to a price decrease.

  16. Wow. For $20/month (soon $22) I guess, and you guys are complaining that you can't get 30 movies a month rented? I actually have a life and am lucky to view 25 in a year.

Anyway, I've been a Netflix renter since almost the beginning and I have a two-at-a-time plan at $14.95/month. I don't think you can get that deal anymore, and I haven't gotten a rate increase notice either. I live in Phoenix, which now has a distribution center and it's incredible how quickly movies turn around. Usually one day each direction and sometimes when I pick a title Phoenix doesn't have it takes two days to come from LA.

I say long live Netflix -- they have figured out how to do this and still make money, despite people that take "full advantage" at 9+ movies a week. They apparently have more resources than any other rental company out there and they will probably endure despite a few complaints about slow service and hate mail to corporate. Any other rental company doesn't have the resources AND the experience that Netflix has. Someone mentioned Wal-Mart and they've definitely got the resources, but they don't have the experience.

Netflix rocks and I DO NOT miss driving down to Blockbuster to beat the due date deadline...

  18. khorton.......... Netflix intern. Must have gotten the crappy job of having to come on this message board and tell us to stop whining. Oh well, keep hard at work and you will be promoted to the guy that gets to put the stickers on the envelops someday. Oh and congrats on having that life of yours......must be great.

That sucks glockjs about the 10 dollar increase. Wonder why they are raising prices? Trying to squeeze every last dollar out of us I guess.

The fact of the matter is not that we thought it was slow service from the get go.....some of us might have never kept the service. Its the fact that they used to be great about delivery time but they have gone down hill big time. We aren't used to Wal-Mart speeds.

So khorton, run and tell your supervisor, that some people are getting pissed off about the delivery time and the price increase......and who knows there might be a dollar in it for you.

  20. Upping the prices, I see...

Well, I'm not going to have any of that. Cancellation seems like it will be in my future plans.

When I first did their free trial, I canceled before the month was up. They offered me 6 months @ $14.99/month, so I accepted. As soon as that is over, I am finished with them. Unless, they decide to swing another cancellation offer my way, but that's not very likely is it?

well... I have been very happy with netflix. DC is in Houston, and i am 250 miles from it. Takes 2 days each way. I have 8 movie out account, and I can get about 60+ movies a month, maybe more.

bad news, is that they are raising the price to $50 (from $40) I guess because some people are shipping movies on the same day they get them. :P Its amazing how many 8 disks episodic seasons can be watched in an hour.

i have had netflix since december, and have never really been happy with it. at the most i get 3 movies a week. and there is a distribution center less than an hour from my house. i send all my movies in at the same time, say friday. they get them all, then on monday they send some out. i usually get one on wednesday, and the other two on either thursday or friday. this is ridiculous considering the center is one hour from my house. and the ratio of damaged discs to good discs has been unreal for me. id say about 25% of my movies have to be sent back due to scratches or cracks.

I signed up to Netflix about 6 weeks ago. During the 2week free trial the service was great. I would recieve all 3 on Monday, ship them back on Tuesday and they would get them the next day and also ship the same day so I would get new dvds on Wednesday, and so on. Last few weeks I been sending them out and they would only recieve one or 2 dvds out of 3 the next day, and the rest the following day.

The biggest problem with NETFLIX is that I was renting a TV show that was about 12 dvds, twice they sent me wrong disks (episodes that I didn't order) and everytime I specified that I recieved wrong disks and sent it back. They never recieved both of those dvds. When I declared the second dvd lost in mail, a message popped saying that if I declare more dvds lost, they would have to freeze my acount. What kind of shit is that? I live only a couple of miles from the location that I recieve the dvds from. Something is wrong there.

Did anyone else experience this problem???

Netflix is not perfect, but better then much of its critics would lead you to think. I know several friends that have netflix about 4. All have very good service. Sometimes there is a glitch. if there is a problem, at least from my experience, the USPS will drop the ball more then Netflix.

strange thing about USPS... you can send out 10 first class mail peieces, drop it in the same box, at the same time, and 9 of 10 arrive on day 2(the designated time), and the 10th arrives on day 3. Sometimes a few of disks arrive on day 1. Its like usps mixes this stuff up so much and then throws the thing in a fedex truck or something.

Anyway... point is... USPS is the cause for more concern then Netflix is, imho. Netflix is great!

"wonder why they are raising prices..."? You just said you were getting 25 films a month for $20 dollars. If that was your business you wiould rais the prices too.

I try to crank the most out of netflix myself, but it is silly to get ticked off that netflix won't let you take them for a complete ride.

Let me venture guess that you didn't do so well in math. There are 30 days in a month, this comes to 25 by your stated turnouround.
