  1. I have an avi file with framerate 23.97, when I used TMPG to covert to a dvd format, should I used the same framerate or the default rate used by TMPG i.e. 29.97? Is there any difference? Will the final picture be slightly jerky? Thanks

I think you're meant to leave it as 23.97fps but on the video tab, change the encode mode to 3:2 pulldown when playback.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  3. You mean I should unlock it , change to 23.97? Why does TMPG default to 29.97? What does the pulldown do? The default is non-interlaced.Sorry for all this question. Pl help. I experience some jerkiness but not in all avi.

set Encode mode - 3:2 pulldown on playback
    set "do not framerate conversion"
    set Framerate "23.976 internally 29.976

I really don't know much about all this, since I'm in PAL land, but hopefully a more knowledgeable person can correct my mistakes:

What TMPGEnc defaults to is determined by what template you have loaded. I believe the pulldown tells the player to convert to 29.97 on the fly (while playing) so that everything stays in sync.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  6. 29.97 is dvd compliant framerate, but you can use 23.97 with 3:2 pulldown. It will change the framerate to 23.97 internally (29.97)

you don't need to check "do not framerate convert"
