Use DVD Decrypter to rip
DVD Shrink to compress
CopytoDVD to burn.
The problem is that when the DVD is being played on my standalone Panasonic A110, the DVD starts to pixilate and eventually skips and stops. This happens usually 30 minutes into the movie/episode. The DVD plays fine up till that point. I'm using Ritek GO4 media. Could this be a problem with the original DVD that I'm trying to back-up? Or is it something wrong that I am doing?
Thanks

One trick I learned, is to look at the total size of the VOBS you ripped. If they are less than 4.7 gb, just reauthor, and no shrink is necessary. The pixelation/freezes I got was usually after the shrink phase.

All my DVD backups require me to compress. Is there anyway to go around this, i.e., better programs, better hardware?
Thanks -

I would also try a different media brand. I experience the same issue with both RitekG04 and Prodiscs. The media will burn fine, but 30 minutes or more into the movie, I get severe pixelation and eventually freezing. This only happens when with RitekG04 and Prodisc -- and they're supposedly the highest rated. The only 4x media that I can use without fail is (believe it or not) Princo.
I was thinking of upgrading the firmware on my burner (Lite-On 451S), but figured why bother? The Princo's are working well for me and I don't want to chance screwing something up. -
I had the same problem but it was my burner. I had a BugLogic one (Lite-On). A co-worker of mine had the same problem with his Lite-On drive. It worked fine for about 2 weeks and then started doing that. I replaced it with a NEC 2500A and now have no problems using the exact same media.

pelsamra,
I have a Panasonic and a Sony player. My Sony is more forgiving in that
it must have better error correction or something. I've had slight
pixelation on some discs when playing on the Panasonic but they
mysteriously go away when played in the Sony. Try playing some of
those discs in other players and see if they also pixelate and skip.
In DVDShrink, are you doing a Deep Analysis? If not, you have a greater
chance of pixelation. -
Louv68 is right, the player could be the problem.
I spent months cursing media and software and it was simply the player.
Unless the standalone specifically says it will play the DVD-/+ formats in black and white (don't belive the salesman) it may not.
My older Panasonic will begin playing these discs ok, but as it gets further into the movie it starts pixelating and stalling. The samsung my daughter has does the same. I bought a new sony that says in black & white on the unit it plays DVD+R/RW & DVD-R/RW and have not had one problem since. In fact, of all the models I looked over at the electronics store, the Sony was the only one that that specifically listed the formats it would play. The others had the general "most recordable DVD" blurb. If it works, don't fix it. -
