  1. Hi,

I don't really know where to put this... but this or the conversion page seems most likely.

I have a friend who is burning home movies using a standalone DVD burner. He sends them to me so I can make copies for myself, but they're not in order.. eventually I want to put dates on all these and put it back in order, but none of my programs besides Intervideo DVD copy express want to mess with .vob files....

Is there any way to rip from DVD to Mpeg 2? I just want to be able to store these things as files in my PC for eventual DVD burning in a different sequence, maybe doing some editing, and mpeg2 is best for that, mpeg2 being DVD format anyway.

Anybody have any ideas that might help?

    Thanks!
    -Mike

  2. vobedit can demux the vob files to m2v and ac3/pcm, which most editing software can handle.

  3. I use Sony's "click to DVD" to put DVDs together, and it doesn't want to recognize those files, either... (that is done on another PC, not mine, mine isn't Sony)

Does anyone know if Sonic MyDVD would recognize those files? I've been thinking of buying that..

I don't think Sonic MyDVD would be a good choice. I use TMPGEnc DVD Author to "rip" my home made DVD's to my computer. TDA will save the VOB files as mpeg's on my hard drive. I will then use these mpeg's to re-author new DVD's. I've got tons of junk I've recorded using my set-top DVD recorder (sitcoms, SNL, TurnerClassicMovies...etc) and I use TMPGEnc DVD Author all the time to re-author (ie, I'll compile a bunch of Friends episodes that I have scattered over several DVDs onto 1 DVD...etc)

  5. my click doesn't recognize m2v files? that sucks, cuz m2v are essentially mpg files. does it recognize mpg files? if so, you can just rename the m2v to mpg.

  6. dafreak,

Yeah, it does notice mpeg... never thought that renaming it would work.... I'll give that a whack. lol

elkfir, thanks for the advice, I'll give that a shot, too!

Too bad there isn't a direct-to-mpeg2 ripper, though. Any idea why this would be the case?
