You didn't start a flame war. This is not a flame war. This doesn't even qualify as a mild disagreement between involved parties.Originally Posted by tekkieman

And for the record, I am in COMPLETE agreement with what Jimmalenko said. It's all about respect for the community.

richdvd - Plenty to do with my time, but can't resist the occassional humor, and the genuine knowledge that is represented here. I check all posts to this site all least twice a day. -

I've read most of these posts, and no one made any suggestions to stop the newbies, etc...
Have a look at the front dvdrhlp.com page. It IS a bit of a jumble (especially to a newbie).
How about changes to the welcome bit that tells newbies to go to certain areas for their most basic questions (like a pre-guessed newbie question answer set). Even a line of newbie links to main forum questions?
Even just telling them to go to certain areas for help....
I know it's annoying to have to do, but common sense is not common, and people will ask stupid obvious questions. It might help stops some newbie getting his arse kicked in the forum?|

An example of what I said earlier:
someone sent me a PM about joining AVIs with VBR Audio and that they couldn't modify the compression tab. I class them as type b) Ask another question in the forum because it worked last time .

How much patience do I need to show ? This one person just kept asking questions because he/she was getting somewhere by doing so. They had no grasp on any video concepts at all and instead of looking n learning, they just kept asking questions which are clearly answered in a number of guides. I have no problems with going in depth with someone if they show some signs of grasping the point of what I am saying. Sometimes you geel like you're banging your head up against a wall, and that's when the Newbie-bash posts come thick and fast.If in doubt, Google it. -

Even non-experts like me get the occasional PM asking for help.
Somehow they got the impression I'm a kindly old uncle or something.
A few have gone well, with intelligent, polite exchanges and ultimate success. Then there are the damn fools who argue, refuse to try a few things, etc.Makes you feel like you're sinking in quicksand. Sooner or later, it comes down to: "don't contact me again".
Jimmalenko is just slightly more blunt about it than me.Pull! Bang! Darn! -
jimmalenko ... that PM situation has happened with me many , many times. It's so annoying how complete NOOBS just ask random questions because they "saw me in a lot of posts", and just do NOT understand anything at all. And then after about 6-7 PM's in 10 mins, you dont even get a thanks. St00pids.
P.S. I hope this wards off any people considering PM-ing me-Yar, matey!- -

The search guide carries alot of information and at time hard to find something. The how to guides are the greatest source of info. I do see
alot of people bringing down alot of newbies that shouldn't need to happen.

so many words in one post, i have a headache now im gonna go lay down
Yesterday, I decided to list all posts of one of these "key" individuals, and quickly learned that in their last 40-some-odd posts, never did provide one useful bit of information to the original poster, but did thoroughly attack them. While I enjoy the occasional flame war, and sometimes chuckle in my sleep over some of the obvious BS answers given here. I cringe when I see one of the newbies post something that deserves some of what they are about to get.
im a newb til the day i die, got a tattoo on my ass..wanna see? but you gotta admit you do learn pretty quickly not to ask stooopid questions when you get flamed right away as a newb... -
The symptoms are often sarcasm, then arrogance then anger.
If you see a newbie post and then see red then it is time
for you to take a break from dvdrhelp.com imho. Everyone
here is expendable as there are experts coming of the
ranks all the time.
We have had some great people here
who I suspect just have burnt themselves out, got bored
with the whole scene, and gone on to pastures green.
Do what I do - hibernate...and I have lurked here since .PS

@ Village : everyone reads your posts. One of your last ones
about making a R200 printing guide was a good suggestion.

tekkieman,
Good initial post, and an echo of my sentiments for a while.
I have long since advocated the use of yellow cards for those who goad and bait the newbie into tripping up, the ones who smell warez and then provoke an admission only to run to the complaints thread to make a post (and not before slamming this poor bastard in the initial thread).
Sure, on occassion I've let my lack of patience (and of late, my lack of sleep) get the better of me but in the main I maintain the stance that we all need different levels of help.
And yes, on occassion I regulaly let my foul-mouth run away with me, sometimes when provoked by those who deem themselves better than me and sometimes for the hell of it.
I assume I'm dealing with adults on this site and when offence is caused I always apologise.
Considering your subject title I make no apology for this, it is not for you to judge; that is for the moderators to act as they see fit.
As for your IQ/post count comment, I find this completely ill-judged, pathetic in fact, as it is nothing more than conjective with absolutely no foundation and your claim to experience?
Counts for nothing my friend, it already makes you sound like you feel elevated to those you seek to protect (by way of this thread).
Please, check my post history, it means nothing to me.
I come and go in patches, I'll spend an age in offtopic and mingle everywhere else.
This site has become a release for me and so what?
I take what I can and help out in other ways than posts.
I do as much as I want, not what I think is expected of me when others deem it necessary to judge based on a 'post count'.
Seventeen month old daughter?
You're right, it is a wonderful time.
I've been there, my boy is just two and his little sister arrived last month.
Wonderful, wonderful times.

If your comments are aimed directly at individuals and you wish to ensure their response then name them, please, none of this pussy-footing around.

You think people should be warned for getting newbies to admit warez?
Newbies agree to the rules here before they post.
I see "NO WAREZ" quite clearly on the rules and all over this site.
If they trip up, they should get flamed and reported.
