  1. Hey guys,

I'm having quite a problem with my dvd-writer NEC ND-1300A.

During the past few weeks, I've succesfully burnt about 40 dvd's, using TDK DVD+R media and Nero 6. But a few days ago, burning processes keep locking up my computer at random times (1%, 7%, 50%,...). I'm talking about total lockups which require a reset.

I have made no physical hardware changes whatsoever (so no jumper, voltage or IDE trouble), in other words, the symptoms came up without any clear reason. I don't disrupt burning processes by taking up memory or processing capacity.

    My system, if needed:
    AMD XP2800
    512MB RAM (333)
    Maxtor 80GB HD

Thanks in advance for offering a solution to this very weird problem.

(on https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=181876, a similar problem, but still, I think mine has another cause, since I have already been able to burn dvds without any trouble in the past)

  2. to isolate whether it's Nero causing the lock-up, convert the files you would ordinarily burn with Nero to an ISO image with freeware (IMGTools, etc.)and burn that image (with DVD Decrypter or another prog). all is free, just a time investment to see where the problem is. good luck.

  3. thank you for yor advice. I tried to burn with the simple tmpgenc integrated writing tool, and it worked, so I reïnstalled nero, and after the installation, all worked fine again. then, I encountered the previous problem a second time. reinstalled nero yet again... now I've just burnt ONE dvd succesfully, and now nero hangs again. (I mean: total screen freeze/lockup, no taskmanager available)

could it be some kind of system files which get screwed up time after time(and very quickly after a nero installation), or is it the aspi manager??? i've got no idea...

(by the way, this burning failure doesn't occur randomly with the same nero installation, because once its fails, it KEEPS failing until reïnstallation)

I really like nero as a writing tool so I'd like to continue using it, rather than a roxio (or other) product.

  4. guess you can get the latest patches from Ahead, or use an older version of Nero like I do (5.5.10.420). GOOD LUCK.
