  1. I need to take a clip off a DVD by knowing the time when the clips starts and ends.

For example, boss watches DVD and says the part he wants starts at 1:09 and ends at 1:11. I have to be able to go in and take that exact section and save it on the HD as AVI/MPEG/...

Do you have any idea how I can do this?? Of course, he wants it yesterday!

    Thanks!!!!

Don't know your knowledge level or toolsets. A simple way is to use TMPG Author. Wait, let's backup. If this is for business, and not personal use, then a lot of 'fair use' rules don't apply.

Basically, rip the whole DVD to your harddrive with DVDDecryptor. Use TMPG Author, add DVD Video, and drop in the main movie. Mark the beginning and end where you want. Skip the menu and output. You will now have a VOB with exactly what you want, you can import/incorporate as you want.

That's a realatively simple way to do it with free tools.

    Here, I'll help you.

First, here's some relevant subject lines:

"Need help extracting an exact clip from video"

"Trimming 2 sec clip from DVD"

That being said, just three other pieces of advice:

    1. Read the guides

    2. Read the guides

    3. Read the guides

Virtualdub Mpeg2 will do what you want.

  6. Rip the DVD and feed the resulting .VOB files into DVD2AVI. Use this to select the section you want to get, and save it as a project.

This spits out a .d2v file, which you can use to encode the DVD format video into AVI or SVCD etc.

  7. You could simply use DVDShrink to create a dvd folder of the section, then TMPGEnc to create an MPG.....

or use Virtualdub Mpeg2 to create an AVi from that folder....or Virtualdub Mpeg2 to open pertinent section of original dvd and then create AVI....

...or....well, there are about 87 dozen ways to do what you want and most are can be found in the guides to the left.

  8. I do the same thing for teaching purposes.

I rip only the chapter that I want using SmartRipper. Then I do as Cobra says and use DVD2AVI to frameserve either a chunk of video or the whole chapter to TMPGEnc.

You can further refine the portion of video to encode using the Source Range filter in TMPG.

    (Read the Guides)
    Happy to be here.
