  1. After reading all of the post on this forum
on menu creation and the short comings of Nero
and all the other tools in creating Menus & Intro's
    for the different s,x,vcd's.

    I would like to see:

    1. vcdimager be able to create xvcd, by relaxing the
    standard checks for vcd.

    2. A GUI XML creater that will allow me to create intro & menus, entrypoints, and whatever else is needed to create DVD chapter like disks.

    3. Then kick off VCDimager and have it create an bin/cue or
    *.nrg that can be burned.

Until then I'll just stick to creating plain old rips that
just play start to finish. Since this is how most people normally view movies anyway.

PS: Whoever creates this GUI will be my Hero!!!!

I agree whole heartedly, I personally found it fustrating and troublesome to create menus and entry points in the xvcds I've created. I've become so disgusted that I now just create a movie, split it and burn. Like you said "that's how most people view movies anyway".

I used to think this too. However, once you've authored a few VCDs from DVD rips that includes the original animated menu, the the scene selection indices (which work!), the special features content (trailers, etc.) and additional stuff like storyboards, you never want to go back.

The problem with this stuff and XVCDs is that XVCDs aren't a standard. There are inherent problems referencing entrypoints on a non-standard bitrate -- probably depending on the interpretation on your player.

As for a GUI, I agree! Anyone with programming experience what to be a hero?

I'm working on one right now.

I am almost done with the first wave. My first version (mainly written to help a friend who wants to use vcdimager, but is confused about the xml syntax) should be ready sometime tomorrow.

You can see a snapshot of the current interface by clicking the below link.

    http://home.cinci.rr.com/mhill/vcd2xml.JPG

Basically this first version will let you build simple to slightly more complex without touching xml.

You can use it to create an xml file for vcdimager for the following setups.

    1) Single mpeg track (the current GUI out there does this)
    2) Multiple mpeg tracks
    3) MPG Still menu to select 1 or more mpeg video tracks
    4) MPEG Intro followed by a menu as above in #3

You can also specify if the mpeg tracks should return to the menu or go on to the next track.

I could also use a few testers, as I do not have a CDRW drive (just a plain old CDR drive) so I don't want to do alot of burn tests. I know I can test them on the PC without burning, but I like to test in my standalone DVD players.

Let me know if your interested.
