  1. I am trying to do this: i downloaded a mpg video from a concert. i am trying to demux the audio from the video and make it a dts compliant file so i can listen to it in my home theater not only in the frontal speakers, but in the whole set of speakers.

the problem is this: i had to convert the video to avi using drdivx because if i opened it with virtualdub i got some errors with some improper joining. after the mpg was encoded to avi, i demuxed the wav from it. then using Gold Wave i created the six files needed to make a dts wav file.

then using surcode i wanted to encode it to a dts wav file. if i listen to the six files individually they sound great... if i listened them with surcode as a "source file" it was great too, but.. if i listened to how the file was going to be after encoded (destination) it sounded really weird, like wind blowing or something... i encoded it anyways then i used ffmgui to make it an ac3 file and sound was weird too....

what con i do?? how am i suppose to make the video sound good in a home theater?? was the process i did good?

surcode can help you with dts encoding as they have excellent customeer support .. i forwarded your question to them ..

but basicly -- if you started with 2ch audio -- you are really gaining nothing making 5.1 unless you really really know what your doing (and even not always then)

then use your reciever and put it in one of the fake surround modes -- it will do a better job

What was the demuxed file? MP2 or AC5.1? Only if it was AC5.1 do you even remotely have a chance to make a DTS file, and then there's absolutely no point in converting it (unless your home theater only plays DTS and not AC5.1). A mp2 file is stereo, not multi channel (although it could be dolby surround, but unlikely if it's a homebrew concert video).

  6. it was a mp2 file... but my question would be.... if i convert that wav to ac3.... will i get it to sound in all the speakers?? or do i have to use dts as an obligation first... and my first method was actually pretty close from working because i could separate all the sound and make the 6 files for the 5.1 dts.... the problem is that when i encoded them the wav file didnt sound right.... just a blurry sound....

It's a 2 channel wav, not 6. There aren't any 6 channel MP2's. There's nothing to encode to AC5.1 or DTS. You can encode it to AC2.0 .

It could be a Dolby Surround Signal, in which case you could have 4 channels. You can convert that to 6 channels easily(LF is easy, and center is when A and R match). The downside is it's still really only 2 channels at a time, it won't ever sound 'good' on a home theater.

  8. then i would like you to see the guide i used to do the encoding... because i dont understand... i am actually making six separate wav files then joining them to one single wav with properties of a dts file...

i just dont know if i am able to put a link to another site from here.... i will put it.... so u can read it and lemme know what happens
