The DMRE-80 detects the built-in copy protection in commercial DVD's. You must put a device in between your player and recorder like the Sima copymaster.

  4. First, it will not allow you to copy a commerical (copy protected) disc directly. You will have to use an external disc player which will output without copy protection (built in or hacked) or use an electronic video stabilizer.

Second, if you want to do it on the PC, you will need a dvd rom drive at the very least. Search in the "Guides" section (in the green section to the left directly under "How To".

Footnote: anyone else surprised by the number of NOOBs that post a forum topic here before doing a web search ???
    If in doubt, Google it.

Not only that, but there seems to be an increasing number of "Help me!", "I am SUCH a newb!", "Big problem!!! Help quick!!!" titled posts, then the basic body of their post is "I need to convert SVCD to DVD"

So much so I don't even bother looking at most topics anymore unless that are started by a few select people.... or those persons that have a genuinely unique situation where I have experience to help or stand to learn something new by following those specific topic/threads and reading whats inside them.....

I tend to give them a little slack if they post it here in the "Newbies" forum as opposed to a more advanced forum. However, so many put a post up like "OK, now how do I start?"

The forum rules clearly say the newbie should read the guides first - not only to save putting up unnecessary posts, but it's also more efficient. They can get immediate answers without waiting a day or two for a reply.

I'm constantly replying with "Look at the left of this screen ....." :P
