  1. I don't have my DVD burner for a long time yet and i didn't bought many DVD's yet. But all the ones I bought were from the same brand. I didn't have any problem yet but they are a bit on the expensive side.
So should i stick with them because they work or should i try another brand?
    I use Imation 4X DVD+R

I generally stick to a couple of different brands, generally Maxell and Memorex (+R's). I've had good luck with them and they're often on sale.

    I've had bad disks with TDK's and Verbatum's - won't use'm again...

  4. I dont have experience with your burner (the lite-on), however, with my A05 (pioneer), it has burned EVERYTHING I have thrown at it, including cheap media like princo and no names from supermedia store, etc. On princo's, I burn to 4200 and not "to the rim".

Agree 100% with this view. I was happy with Princos until I got 30 coasters out of 50. Now I'm a "Ritek man"

  6. I only used Ritek Orange top -Rs from pretty much the begining. Now with a printer that can print to DVDs, I have to find another DVD that works. I'm going to test ProDisc silver printables first. If they don't work, I'll go to some Ritek brand that's printable.

But, I know I can always go back to the orange tops

Yea, me too. Ritek. I bought 5 maxell's the day I bought my burner, haven't bought anything but Ritek since. (nothing wrong with the maxells though, they burned and played just fine.)

I tend to stick with what I can buy locally...TDK-R 2X and Verbatim...just easier for me...I can go to the local Best Buy and pick up a spindle, usually when I need em.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it...(sorry iooi...didn't see that before...)

    Works for me...

    just a thought

I buy whatever is on sale, typically. Although the most of my collection is Ritek's (internet) and Maxell's (physical store).

Obviously, if you are having good results then thats definitely a good sign.

However it doesn't hurt to try and get the "best" for the "lowest cost". I mean, if you are paying $3 a disc for top quality media, but if you switched to another brand and paid $1.50 that still offered top quality results, then it's definitely worth it.

I stick with two tiers of media. My #1media (for things that HAVE to last) and my #2 media, (for things I'd like to last, but won't be devestated if they don't.)

    For #1 I use Maxell DVD-R 2x-4x

    For #2 I use either Maxell DVD+R/Memorex DVD+R 4x (RicohJPN01 discs)
    or Ritek DVD-R 4x (Ritekg04) discs.

I'm pretty satisfied with my current setup. But that doesn't mean that if a high quality (Maxell equivalent) comes around that is for a lesser price, I will ignore it. No need to spend more than you have to

Yes but always check that they are exactly the same ones. Both manufactures and shops are trying to offer lower and lower prices and in the cost reduction quality suffers.

  15. My 4040B makes me stick with a few brands.
Give a person a fish and you feed them for a day; teach that person to use the Internet and they won't bother you for weeks

Have you noticed that a slight tax increase costs you two hundred dollars and a substantial tax cut saves you thirty cents?

i go through the circulars in the sunday paper, i can almost always find a good deal on the 3 brands i use, memorex, maxell, and tdk. i used to just buy anything with a good price, until i had a traumatic experience with optimum.

  18. I've got a pioneer burner, so I always stick with "one brand" it's called

    "On Special"

    never have a problem.!

  19. Usually will stick with the Fuji & Maxell -R (Made in Japan)

And if you really want to go ALL OUT for the BEST media, try Naked Geeks.... They use a patented cross convergence interface that whiteboards their media on back end applications and will allow for 100% burn failure at any speed.

  20. When i first got my Sony DRU-510A last year, I bought small amounts of several brands. Namely Memorex (+/-), Verbatim (-), Sony (-) & Imation (+/-). Had success w/ all. A few no-name (silver-top) -R packs w/ mixed results. Guess my favorite "big" brand is Imation (RICOHJPN***) but also like Ritek G03/04 -R and well as Radius +R (Optodisc) for the good stuff.
