  1. Anyone out there familiar with encoding DV to DivX with good results?

    -What kinda programs do you use
    -What things to keep in mind

    what are you plan on doing with the videos you convert to divx? i wouldnt recommend it becuase you will loose A LOT of quality.

  3. I just want to have a small file i can put on CD.
    And DivX would the best...quality/space. And compatible for other users over the net.

  4. I do DV -> Divx all the time.

    You can fit a lot on a CD. You can do TV Quality that is about 1 hour long with proper Divx Two-Pass Encoding. If you are willing to lose some quality you can probably fit 2 hours on a CD as well. My recommendation is to use DVDs if you can. You will be able to store a lot more and it will be a lot more convient to grab one DVD vs. 4-5 CDs for the same number of videos.

    I have done some outstanding DivX conversions. I generally use Virtual Dub to do this.

    I capture from DV to AVI using WinDV or DVIO (both work well), open the resulting file in VDub, edit/filter/etc, and save as a DivX file.

    I've used both 5.0.x and 5.1.x codecs with good results using this method.

  8. If you have an AIW, the latest version of MMC 9.0 can also do DV->Divx from the Media Library.
