Hi All,
I was hoping someone might have an answer for me on a peculiar conversion problem I'm having. I just bought a Sony Vaio RS530G and loaded up a few editing programs and simple AVI to MPEG converters. The main conversion program I use is TMPGEnc, however this program, along with any other program I try, does not want to open any AVI files for any kind of conversion. The AVI files themselves play fine using any media player, but my system tells me that the file type is unsupported when I try converting the AVI's. I can convert these files on my Compaq desktop, but not on the Vaio. Another interesting twist came when I visited the Sony website to download updates for the Vaio. I found an AVI to MPEG converter (fx MPEG Writer) that will open the AVI files for me, but this is only a free version with MPEG 1 capabilities. Does anyone know whether this is an agenda Sony has with the FX people to get users to buy the full version that supports MEPG 2, or is there something I might be doing wrong? There must be a way around this problem. If one program can convert my AVI's, why can't the rest???
Thanks for any help,
Patrick
