  1. I have a DVD which when played on my Toshiba SD330ESB multiregion player shows the picture twice ie side by side. Lurking in the forums I think its something to do the the SVCD header trick but can someone confirm this and better still tell me what I need to do to sort it out.

    Thanks

The header trick is used so that some VCD capable players will play SVCD's. Since you have a DVD, the header trick doesn't really apply.

I assume we're talking about a home made DVD. It could be a DVD made with SVCD resolution, which some players don't like. Does it play OK on your PC? Have you tried it in other players?

You may need to re-encode it which is a fair amount of work if you've never ripped a DVD before. Look up DVD to DVD in the guides section.

  3. It works fine in my pc. I think someone has made a dvd from 2 svcds and my player doesn't like svcd. I've done some reencoding but don't know the basic series of steps to follwo to sort this out. Should I convert the vob to mpeg and re encode or is there an easier way?

I'd copy the vob's to my PC, run DVD2avi which will create a D2V project file and then convert to DVD compliant mpeg with TMPGEnc. You should use 1/2 DVD resolution, i.e. convert the 480x480 SVCD resolution to 352x480. It will look better than upsizing from SVCD to full DVD. DVD2AVI can demux the audio as well so that in the end you have your audio and new video ready to reauthor.
