hi, i am trying to convert a movie that is widescreen to be on a DVD, and i was wondering, when i convert it with TMPGEnc, do i have to remove the black bars before i convert it, or leave them there, then convert it

I would clip the black bars. That way none of your bitrate is wasted on trying to re-encode black space. Make sure you change the video arrange method to full screen(keep aspect ratio).
