  1. Can anyone tell me what codecs I need to run avi and change to mpeg, I've tried loading codec packs but it will only let me load certain ones I keep getting error messages on loading saying retry , cancel or ignore and it will only let me ignore. When I try to look at the avi file the sound is good but the file is just a mass of flashing colours (divx file ). I want to try loading the codecs individually, so I need to know what one's I need. I am running xp and media player 9.

  2. To play a DivX file, you need the DivX codec. Here they are:

    https://www.videohelp.com/tools?toolsearch=DivX&section=6&orderby=Name&convert=&dvdautho...+or+List+tools

Do remember that the DivX 5 codec, although listed as freeware which is true, is ad-supported.

I don't know what's up with your video file. Try opening it up with Virtualdub, and scanning for bad frames. This may reveal a corrupt file.

To change the file to MPEG, you will need to use a package like TMPGEnc to convert the format. You don't say what you want to convert to or from, so try these guides:

    https://www.videohelp.com/convert

    Hope this helps,
