So i recently got this new DVD +/- RW toy and I'm still trying to perfect the proccess of playing with it
The idea was this:
I got Lord of the Rings, Two Towers, extended edition 4 DVD set
The movie is spread accross 2 DVDs and I have a 4 SVCD backup set (created with DVD2SVCD), so i figured why not try and put the 4 SVCDs on 1 DVD-R...that way i can watch the whole thing without switching DVDs AND as a bonus i get to play with my DVD +/- RW a little
So I use VCDgear 3.55 to extract the mpegs from the SVCDs, TMPGenc Plus to encode the SVCDs to 720x480 mpeg-2 (2500 avg bitrate...can't fit much more on a 4.7 gig DVD-R), TMPGenc DVD author to turn the mpegs into a proper DVD-Video layout (VOBs and all), Nero 6 to burn it.
Frankly the video/audio is just as nice as the original DVD...except it now is on 1 DVD-R instead of 2 DVDs
The problem:
credits
Playing in my AKAI BL-200 DVD player none of the opening credits show (there's the wingnut film thingie and something else), the title shows, but only fades in about half way (stays dim for a second) before appearing in its full bright glory, then when it fades from black screen to the movie (snow covered mountains, I'm sure everyone knows the opening) just like the titel the movie fades in half way, pauses a sec (dim video of the mountains) before the fading proccess finishes and the movie starts.
None of those fade-in problems affect the audio playing in the background, the movie plays 100% fine in it's entirety, AND (unfortunately?) none of the credit problems appear when I play the DVD-R in my PC (powerdvd).
The end credits appear fine at first glance, but they don't use any special effects (to start) and it takes a bit before you notice problems (like a few credits only stay on screen for a sec or fraction thereof - indicating they either showed up too late or went too soon for some reason).
The only other movie I got on DVD-R is The Last Samurai, at the end when it fades to black and the credits should play I get about a minute of black screen with music and then suddenly the credits show up (not from the start though, more like where the credits should be at after all this time).
Now I'm rather new to this DVD-R thing but way i look at it is the credits are just video, shouldn't be any different than the movie (just instead of all the pretty colors you get white markings on black background).
So why do credits have problems playing on my DVD player? (standalone, not computer)
Why doesn't it affect the movie or the audio playing during credits?
Could it be a problem with lower bitrate during credits?
Any input would be appreciated.
(BTW how weird is this: My last login attempt was listed at 2 years ago, same time :P)
