  1. I have a Panasonic dvd recorder DMR-E50. When I try to copy a vhs to dvd then use TMPGEnc DVD Author to convert it to DVD, I get a message that there are two formats, mpeg 1 and mpeg 2 on the RAM disc. and TMPGEnc will not operate... Is there any way to record in just mpeg 2?

The Panny stand alone DVD recorders have an option entitled "HYBRID VBR RESOLUTION" and the default setting is AUTOMATIC so change it to FIXED.

    That should solve the problem.

When it is set to AUTOMATIC the resolution changes from Full D1 to Half D1 during the recording and that causes all kinds of havoc so you should always have it set to FIXED
