but sometimes when it takes to long it will say writing error is there any way i can speed it up

If you want a sensible answer give people a clue as to what you are trying to do .
What are your computer specs ? That matters greatly when discussing speed.
What are you asking TMPG to do? ie Source and output
Has the writing error suddenly change itself into a streaming error?
You have made 50 posts , it sounds like your first. -
The best way to speed up, and then you get MUCH faster, is to get CCE (cinema craft encoder). Much better quality too, and the lite-version cost like $60. To have a happy life with CCE you should learn some AVISynth scripting, which you can easily learn in less time than it takes to encode with TMGPEnc.

I have tried mainconcepts encoder too, for DV to DVD, its very fast. Anyway, sometimes CCE is faster and in the cases where mainconcept is faster its not worth $90 to save a few seconds.
As for the advice of getting faster pc to make TMPGEnc faster, you would need an enormous piece of hardware for tmpgenc to come close to CCE or MC on an average desktop. TMPGEnc isnt just slow, its annoying and embarassing slow, so slow it hurts just to think about it.
