  1. Hooked up my lap top to TV thru S-Video. mpg and avi played with WMP won't show up on TV, just the player itself but no picture showing. Same thing with Divx player. Only Quicktime player will show mpg movies, but Quicktime can't play avi and can't go full screen.

Anybody know how to solve these? Or any other players that will play avi and mpg and can go full screen and will show up on TV?

Thanks in advance for any help.

WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER SHOULD HAVE WORKED.
ALSO TRY WINAMP PLAYER .. THAT ALSO HAS FULL SCREEN MODE...
PROBLEM WITH QUICKTIME YOU HAVE TO BUY THE PRO VERSION TO USE FULL SCREEN MODE..

Sure, I have my laptop hooked up to my TV right now. I have a generic ATI card, but most work the same. If 2000 is the same as XP, go to your control panel>Display>Settings. You should have two monitors shown. Click on the ghosted monitor and then click the box 'entend my windows desktop onto this monitor'. REBOOT, and this should enable TV output. Much the same as using an external monitor. Your laptop manual should give you the exact method. Make sure the SVHS cable is plugged in before you do all this and you should be set. You may have to drag your video program screen over to the TV off the side of your laptop screen.
EDIT: You can also make the TV the primary monitor, but then your laptop screen is blank. Expirement a little, it's not that hard to set up.

  4. Thanks guys.

I have no connection problem at all, everything I see on my laptop I see it on TV. It just when playing avi and mpg with WMP I don't see the movies. I still see everything else including the WMP itself, but the screen within the WMP is blank as if I don't have any media file opened. Same thing with Divx player, I can see the player but no pictures showing up on TV, while it's showing on laptop screen. The only player that will show the movies is Quicktime.

I'll try Winamp later (didn't know it plays video files).

Sorry, twen, misread your post. I remember this topic came up before, but I can't recall the solution. Sounds like it's in your interface with the video board. Try some of the controls like snafu99 said. Check your laptop manual. I rarely use my laptop for this purpose, but it will play anything on the TV screen that's on the laptop screen.

  7. Got it, guys! You have to accept TV as primary display. This way when videos are played laptop screen will blank out, TV will show video. When stopped, desktop screen shot will show on both.

    Thanks for helping anyway.
