As the subject indicates I'm having some trouble with my DV-333. Whenever I put a dvd in the drive the pioneer splash screen comes up (white background with a grey pioneer logo) then it goes to a black screen with a small white square in the upper left hand corner of the screen. It then "reboots" (for lack of a better word) and goes through the splash and the square again. It will do this forever if I let it.

Does anyone know what might be causing this? I can still play vcds without any problem. I even backed up a dvd and was able to play it. It simply will not play commercial dvds. I'm guessing it may have something to do with copy protection or whatnot but I don't know why it would start acting up after a year or two. I tried to look for updated firmware but I haven't been able to find anything that even indicates you can flash it at all. If anyone has a suggestion I would appreciate it because I hate to lose this one as it has been really good about playing anything I put in it.

If you think that it's dead for whatever reason please let me know of another dvd player that will work this well if you know of one. I guess I'll have to get a new dvd player if this one is gone. I would like the new one to be as compatible as possible (just like my dv-333) and I suppose it also needs to be available somewhere so I can actually buy it. Most of the really good dvd players in the guide here are no longer available at all (even on ebay).

Thanks
