Any opinions on what I should do...??

I have a 25" Samsung TV that I bought six years ago going on seven now. About 2 maybe 2 1/2 years ago I noticed I was having some picture problems. Screen lifting up from the bottom was the first signs but at the time I didn't think much of it. Then the TV would get really noisy almost like it had a motor running in it or something. Then it moved on to the bright white horizontal line with the surrounding screen completely gone. It used to be that I could turn it off and back on and everthing was fine. If that didn't work I would unplug it and turn it back on and that was good sometimes too. However in the past year or so the picture has slowly degraded and there's a cloudly look when I watch tv or movies and it has really just begun to look bad no matter what I am watching. I came home tonight from work and turned it on and the white line is back. I tried all of my methods and nothing has worked at all. I'm thinking this is a blessing and I have gotten a good lifetime out of my first TV set? I have been considering buying a digital TV maybe 48" or so for some time now but was going to hold out until my TV went for good or I got completely fed up with it.

What do you think, did I get a good life out of it because I really don't want to have it fixed or if I do I prolly could give it to my parents or something.

6/7 years is a decent life for a tv. if you're doing pretty well cashwise & an expensive tv wouldnt be a burden on you, then i say go for it.. otherwise, wait a while longer, for now just go to some electronics store and get yourself another 25/27incher for $200

Well I think I can get away with spending about $1500 or so but more than that would be out of my budget. Any brands you know of that have performed well in the past and would be good buys?

I don't mind Panasonic for home electrical goods, always been reliable and of good quality in my experience.

I own a variety of Samsung products and am completely satisfied. They make a good product and back it up with great support. You can just call and ask about a product problem. Don't need a serial or customer #. Bought a mp3 player from a 3rd party that was previously opened/missing a part. They blew me off,but Samsung sent the part only requesting my name and address.

As far as the tv is concerned,I love my HD 61" DLP Samsung. Dlp is awesome. Out of your posted budget,but u might consider a smaller one.

Thanks. My old TV is working again...for now. I am going to just try and make it last until my birthday in June and then the bigscreen will be a gift to myself.

good lord. your tv sounds like an old 19 inch tv i used to have when i was a kid. you could only use a remote to operate it, if someone used the buttons on the front, you couldnt turn the tv off w/ the remote or on the tv.. so i had to unplug it and then take it apart.. i dont know exactly what i did, but during taking it apart & putting it back together it always went back to working right.. no matter how many times i told my friends/family, they would always use the ******* buttons, even if i covered them up.. the tv lasted me about 3 or 4 years in that condition.. then one day it just wouldnt come on, i tried taking it apart, but nothing.. so i just took it out in the back yard and beat it with a baseball bat

then again, when any elecronic device goes bad on me, i always smash it. unless of course it retains some type of value even though its broken.

I have a Samsung TV and I love it (Dynaflat 20"). I say just buy another TV, just not an expensive one. They are throwaway items.

I've never been unhappy with any Samsung product I've had in my possession. And 6-7 years for a television today is pretty good; the days of electronics lasting 25 years are long, long gone.

Replace it. There's a better-than-even chance parts won't be available, or the parts+labor costs will be ridiculous. That's my 2¢ on the matter.
