  1. How can I edit a DVD that I backed up with dvdbackup as a video_ts folder?

  2. 1) Use OSeX or YadeX to extract the movie as a program stream (VOB) instead of as a folder.

    2) Use DVDxDV, Diva, or Cinematize to turn the movie into a DV stream.

    3? import into iMovie.

$) grab MacTheRipper as well, DVDBackup is lless reliable, and the trio of rippers mentioned here will do th3e job better.

keep in mind u need 20-30 gigs free to convert an entire movie to dv

Push the envelope. Watch it bend.

Over thinking, over analyzing separates the body from the mind. Withering my intuition leaving all these opportunities behind.

Why can't I find OSeX, YadeX, DVDxDV, Diva, Cinematize, or MacTheRipper in the tools section?

Try VersionTracker for most, and OSEx is available here:

    You can grab YadeX here:

  6. hmosesi, the easiest and best way to go is to let this app dvdxdv do it all for you! It´s very easy, and no need for demuxing or anything.. just click import, let it do it overnight. And the next day you import the dv stream to imovie. Remember to choose "imovie/FCP PAL" when asked.

I know this is late, but it´s useful knowledge with general interest

NTSC would be more appropriate, since he's in the USA...

  8. yes of course, what I mean to say is that you should choose the imovie/Final Cut Pro option..

HOWEVER I was perhaps a bit too optimistic yesterday when letting dvdxdv do the job over night. When I woke up today, all I could find was one file called "mymovie.mov" which only took up 600mb of hd space!! WTF I can´t even open it in imovie! It is in fact VERY VERY important that I manage to get this done as soon as possible, or else I won´t get paid and I will get a bad reputation!! So I guess I´ll try the previously mentioned (and a lot more complicated method" for making video_ts readable in imovie..

Does anyone here have good knowledge of how to use dvdxdv? Is it normal that the socalled "dv stream" only takes up 600mb?

Would appreciate any fast help I can get on this...
    Thanks a lot in advance!

Edit: It seems like dvdxdv is NOT up for the job by itself afterall... So I will be trying the original method for now

If you only want to edit out clips of your VIDEO_TS folder, you can open all the vobs in a video title set and edit them in MPEG Streamclip.

  10. Important message to all: USE MPEG STREAMCLIP

    All other apps SUCK!
But this app actually does the job, don´t waste your time with the shit previously recommended.

I extracted a video_ts folder (DVD) to one big .vob file with YADE and then converted it to multiple dv streams using Mpeg Streamclip (check the box which says especially for imovie). And it worked, opens perfectly in iMovie WITH SOUND.

Thank you so much for the advice AntnyMD, I would never have made it without it.

Or, if you think VersionTracker sucks, try MacUpdate.
If it isn't broken, take it apart and find out why.
