I recently bought a 10 pack of Ritek DVD-RW which I use for backups. I also have a Ritek DVD+RW that is my test disc.

I generally use it to test my burned DVD's. IF they work with my -RW I burn on -R saves me coasters an what not. never generally had a problem.

I have used a -RW a few times, but they are so horribly slow to burn. I still use it ocassionally for data disks. I found some inexpensive DVD -R media that works good for me. Not much reason to try RW again. Never tried +RW.

I only own +RW's actually...only because my Philips DVD recorder is still going strong. I'd imagine I would have both + and -RW's if I did not own a Philips recorder since my LG4040B is dual format.

  7. I just 'Ghosted' somebody's hard drive to a Memorex 2X DVD-RW. Not a single glitch, and the disc read fine in her machine the next day.

    I'm somewhat surprised.

I use -RW for some purposes. I really only use it to burn on a large file that I need to transfer between home/school. Since these are usually just 100-200 MB's, the write speed isn't a factor for me.

That sure would be nice. It took me a whole day to ghost my primary drive (no video even on it), and I've now got a spindle of discs.

I used MXLRG02 ... and it appears to have written at 3x speed (45 minutes)

  10. I've never used any -RW. I've got two 10-packs (jewel-cased) Memorex (Ricoh) +RW's I use primarily for system backup (and a 5-pack of Imation I've yet to open). Although I've tested video backups on +RW in my Apex's and they play, no problems.

  11. The poll at CDFreaks shows that +RW is roughly twice as popular as -RW

(+R is neck and neck with -R)

By sheer luck, I purchased a 5-pack of Memorex DVD-RW on the way home the night that I bought my Pioneer DVD burner. It turned out that the DVD-RW included with the Pioneer only burned successfully the first time. But I have used my Memorex DVD-RWs over and over and over again. It took me six months to develop a reliable process for capturing/authoring/burning DVDs, and I have lost count of how many times I did a small test burn on a DVD-RW. I have never had to buy additional DVD-RWs, as the original five pack are still going fine. Must have saved me a hundred bucks easy...

I have only used +RW and only for testing.

In fact, I have only 1 Fugifilm DVD+RW that I use and re-use.

I've never had a problem with it.
