  1. hi people, I have a video .wmv file that won't allow me to fast forward/ rewind/skip - it will basically only play from begining to end. I've been advised to convert it to MPG using "tmpegnc" as this should allow me to jump ahead in the file etc.

can anyone please advise me how to do this (I'm using my cousins computer who has "tmpegnc" however I'm a beginner with this program.

    thanks guys

Near the bottom of the main screen click the browse button next to where it says "video source". Once the file browser pops up the first thing you need to do is move the "files of type" slider to "all files", then load your wmv. Hopefully TMPGEnc is able to open the wmv without any errors because if it does not, you're in for a difficult ride. Assuming all went well you need to decide what kind of mpeg you want to create. If the wmv is of decent quality, choose VCD. I've never seen a wmv that was worthy of converting to anything better than SVCD at best. Once you make up your mind which you want, click on the "load" button near the bottom right of the screen and choose the appropriate template. Click start and let the encoder do its thing.

thanks greatly for the instructions. One thing though, how do I choose what MPEG I want to create? (The .wmv is only average quality by the way).

    thanks again

Assuming you live in North America, choose the "VideoCD (NTSC).mcf" template after you click "load".
