this writer burns +r at 8x and -r at 4x is there any hacked firmware that will burn -r at 8x

It would help if you post the model number of your LITEON burner. Check the LITEON forum at cdfreaks.com they have guides on how to upgrade firmware and upgrade to burn at faster speeds.

I gave you the link for the PIONEER forum at cdfreaks. Check it out. I'm not sure about burning 8X for DVD-R that is why I gave you the PIONEER Forum link. Try checking cdrlabs.com & firmware page forum site too.

Or the CD Freaks forum... since they have a LiteOn-specific forum.
To summarize:
~ 8x -R for 811/851 will *not* be possible. It will require a major re-write of the firmware (instead of just a few patches/hacks).
~ But why bother w/ 8x -R when you could buy cheap 4x +R media, speedhack the firmware, and burn your 4x +R at 8x?
