  1. I just got a Nec 2500a drive today and have a question about the DVD region deal.

---Please forgive if this has been brought up before I just don't want to F*** anyhthing up.---

I noticed there is a firmware for it "RPC1" I beleive it is. Should I go ahead and flash my drive with this? I've read though if not done properly flashing your drive with firmware can mess up the drive. That's my concern really.

In "properties" of the drive, under the "DVD Region" tab it says I have to pick a region. With 5 picks only. Should I go ahead and pick my region? I know this stuff is propably a breeze for most of you but keep in mind I'm new to DVD burners and any help would be great. (Well, I was able to install the drive without any help )

So I guess my question again is should I flash my drive with RPC1? From dangerous brothers, is that correct? Or is there another/better firmware out there? I found a couple download sites for RPC1. Is there a site better than the next? More reputable?

Again forgive my ignorance in this matter. My great concern is not wanting to screw up my drive. I did a search for my question (but not thorough though.)

Anyway thanks greatly in advance for any help I can get.

I'm in the U.S. by the way if that is relevent to anything.

    Peace.

  2. Only YOU can decide if you want to flash your firmware or not. The NEC drives are not known to have great firmware, so there will be many brands of media that simply won't work with your burner.

  3. You also might want to monitor this thread. This is a firmware unlocks the rip speed and has multi-region, and bitsetting, but they're also optimizing the media for the 2500A. It's in beta form, but has evolved a bit. Seems like they have made progress on Ritek G04s.

I flashed by brother's with the non beta TDB windows flasher (unlock version only) and it was a piece of cake.
