  1. I want to get a PVR for my sister in Canada. The reviews I've read on Snapstream look good. But I can't imagine how to set it up so that it's actually convenient to use. The computer needs to be near the tv and it would be a major nuisance to walk over to it every time you need to use the software.

I recall seeing recently that there are remote controls that work with a PC. Is this the best way to operate a computer-based PVR?

  2. I can't give you any info on PVR software, but with respect to remote control of the computer in general check out the Girder software along with a UIRT2 module. I have my computer upstairs in my office connected to my TV and 5.1 Stereo down in the living room. I can control everything (stereo, tv and computer including turning the computer on and off) from my universal remote on the couch. You can make the UIRT2 module from parts for about $30 or $40 and I believe Girder is Shareware now.
