  1. I have a bunch of xvid avi files that I would like to make a DVD out of. However, when I try to import the assets in Encore DVD, it says the aspect ratio is unnacceptable... It is supposed to be 720x480. Does anyone know of any DVD authoring software that will accept these files, should I just use TMPGEnc to create the compliant MPEG-2 files first, or use VirtualDub (and how?).
I know this may be in the wrong forum (covers a few topics), but it does have to do with DVD authoring.
I would appreciate any suggestions, and I thank you in advance.

  2. I have part of a solution for you.

I am experiencing the same problem. What I did was load my 640x480 video files into TEMPGEnc 3.0 Xpress. In the Filter dialog, I changed the Image Position in the Resize area from Full Screen to Center. Then in the Set Output dialog, I changed the screen size to 720x480 and the framerate to 29.97 FPS. This will add some small black borders to the left and right of your video so that the video is now 720x480 but did not stretch the video disproportionately or crop some of the frame off.

However, here is the problems I've run into. Adobe Encore does not like handling video clips of either Xvid or DivX. Using TEMPGEnc, I've tried the following options:
    • Converting to MPEG2 DVD format leaves a bunch of "motion lines" for lack of a better description that are really annoying. I don't know where these lines came from or how to get rid of them.

Converting to Windows Media Player 9 format, or any other format/compression that Encore seems to be able to play, does take away some of the image quality.

So I am stuck, if anyone has any idea how to get around this, I would definately like to know.
