  1. I tried capturing with Virtualdub but I can only get video - no sound.
So I used Windvr instead. I was able to capture video and sound, but the sound is terrible.
What can I do to get the audio in virtualdub? I know I did it before, but I spent hours trying to figure it out but I get the same result - no sound.

  2. The first question to ask is can you record sound input using ANY app, ie windows sound recorder, Cooledit, Goldwave, etc?

  3. Yes I can.
I can get audio using WinDVR, but it sounds terrible.
I have also used Virtualdub before successfully with audio. I just dont know what happened or what changed to make the audio not be recorded anymore.

  4. Since you have had success before, maybe you should check your connections. Perhaps the audio cable is not seated well or is in a bind.
If it works, don't fix it.

  5. What sound card are you using? If you're using the card that came with your computer, typically the capture is pretty bad.

  6. I'm using XP Home, Celeron 1.1, 512 PC100 RAM.
The sound card I am using is not the onboard card. That broke down and am using a 4 channel ("C-Media" ?) sound card.

The thing is, I was successful before. I just cant remember what settings I used. I kept trying some more last night, but every time, I only capture the video. When the audio is there during the actual capture is in progress.

I'm connected to a VCR through a KWorld TV Tuner card.

  7. While playback on c-media cards is ok, the low-end cards (that's all that I'm familiar with) really suck at capturing.

As for your problem now, open the c-media audio control panel and check to make sure your recording source is set properly. Just because you can hear audio doesn't mean you can record it.

Then check the local or internet sales to find a better audio card.

  8. Thanks!
    That was it.
One of the settings was checked, I think "microphone".
I took it off and it captured sound in Virtualdub again.

I do plan on getting a 5.1 card soon.

Once again, Thanks to everyone who helped.

  9. I think this may have answered my post, i've only got
onboard sound and i'm getting little or no sound.
You think a sound card would make all the difference.

  10. A lot of people have told me having on-board video and on-board sound actually sucks.
It actually takes away your memory and cpu power when you have these.
