Yesterday, while in the process of editing a title on the HDD (splitting into chapters and then erasing the sections I didn't want) my 5100 went into timer ready mode.

Later, when I went back to the title to finish off the editing I found the final chapter (19 mins duration) wouldn't play and the preview screen is black.

When trying to playback this chapter in the title the machine seems to lock up. I can play all the chapters in the title apart from the final one. I was hoping that it would somehow recover but alas this hasn't happened. I don't know if its significant that its the final chapter which has been corrupted.

Not wishing to give up on it, I've tried copying the title to DVD-RW but it never completes. Although the countdown bar shows zero mins remaining it never finishes. The only way out is to then hold the power button for 10 secs.

An odd thing happens while trying to copy this corrupted title... part way through the copy process the whole screen gets obscured by a static (as in unmoving) grey/white speckle - as if someone had put a thin grey cloth over the TV.

This is the first error I've had since I got the machine at the end of January. Other than this its been great. Just hope it doesn't happen again.

So I thought it would be good to let fellow 510/5100 users know of this.

I think it would be a good idea to avoid chapter editing if there are only a few minutes to go before a timer event begins.

I'll also be passing a copy of this message to Pioneer (UK).
