I have an xvid file that I have converted to vcd compliant mpeg using mainconcept. It produced a 954 mb file from a 700 mb xvid. Now then I wanted to use tmpeg to convert it because I like being able to sqeeze the whole movie onto one cd. The problem that I've been having is that tmpeg said that the file produced would be 2.25 gigs at 900 b/s I would have to take it all the way down to like 7 b/s to get it to fit on one cd. Why is it that mainconcet can encode this file at 1100 b/s and come out with a smaller file(954mb). I'm not sure of the specs on the xvid but I run into this problem every once in a while, so the next time I run into I can give better specs about the file. Also the file was encoded in wide screen 652x? can't remember what that last number was want to know how to make it keep the widescreen view in mainconcept. The video was all stretched and made everything to tall. Thanks guys

Just so you know, a compliant VCD can only hold aproximately 80 minutes of video. I think the reason that TMPGEnc is wanting to create an unnecessarily large mpeg is because your xvid has variable bitrate audio, which TMPGEnc seems to choke on. As for getting your vcd to the correct aspect ratio in Mainconcept, you'll have to post the other dimension besides the 652.

I used unlock the settings and to make a 2 pass VBR non-standard vcd that could have over 100 minutes on 1 cdr - a bit like the kvcd stuff.
yes there not standard but quality looked good IMHO and never had a player that choked on them.
As for the video looking streched I suggest you read and understand the following guide.

Sorry I wasn't clear on that I was doing like the dude above me unlocking the settings and reducing the bitrate on the vcd leaving rest of intact to get it just small enough to fit on one cd. If I'm doing cartoons I reduce it a whole lot and can get around 3hrs and 20 min on a cd with greatly reduced quality but Its a sacrifice well worth having 10 20 minute eps on a cd. neways back to the point very helpful comments guys and the next time I run into this I'll give it a whirl. I used to always extract the audio before I used tmpeg but it seems like an extra step that I didn't need also I'm working on a 20 gig HD that I float between 2-6 gigs of free space on depending on how many movies I have waiting to be converted / burned. Anyways HEY I found the specs for that file it was orig encode in xvid at
640x256

mainconcept handels vbr audio better then tmpec but still better to rip to wav 1st,
As for the res/AR prob you don't say weather the file is pal or ntsc
but to keep all of the movie on screen and have mainconcept add the black bars on a vcd to be play'd on a 4:3 tv you need to load file into mc goto details-->crop&scale uncheck the keep proportions box and enter new a height value of 154 (PAL) or 128 (NTSC)
Try on a small test clip 1st - should be fine
values would be different if you choose 16:9 as the AR (not std for vcd but does work only if viewing on a widescreen tv) 204 (PAL) or 170 (NTSC)
