k stupid question here. i know that some dvd players have trouble with high bitrate vcds. is there any way to find out what the optimal bitrate is for my dvd player? like i said, stupid question.

VCD has a fixed bitrate of 1150 kb/s for video, anything else makes it an XVCD. If you want to find out the bitrates that your player can actually handle, well unless someone here has the exact same model and can tell you, then the only other way is trial and error.
