  1. Just need some rule of thumb formulas here,

    Ie Capture AVI from DV camera to HD 1 min = ? file size on HD

    Then AVI to MPEG 2 1 min of Avi to PAL best qual Mpeg2=?file size

    Hi Divxwannabe,

    Capture AVI from DV camera to HD 1 min = ? file size on HD
    1 hour of DV AVI is approx. 13.5Gb

    Then AVI to MPEG 2 1 min of Avi to PAL best qual Mpeg2=?file size
    When converting to MPEG2, the filesize is purely a function of the bitrate and the running time (in seconds) of the footage.

    There is no bitrate for "best quality" as there are too many other factors to take into account. However, a rough guide would be 7,500 - 9,000kbps.

    Use the DVDRHelp Bitrate Calculator in "Advanced Mode" to see the effect "Video Length" and "Bitrate" has on file size. Note that you can adjust the bitrate for both video and audio.
