  1. Okay, I've read many people with the same problem. Most of them have been answered with ... "get powerdvd" and apparently, most of them are satisfied in the end. I on the other hand still can't get this to work. I got powerDVD, presumably with the mpeg-2 decoder. And I get the audio working but with constant "blips" and the visual is like 50% visible, the rest are just crazy colored. I've also tried getting a mpeg-2 decoder for WMP9 and it still doesn't work. Can someone please help me out?

You are probably not getting many replies because you need to give more information. Filling out your computer profile is a big help. Things that can cause your problem: Slow computer, problems with the DVD drive (Or is the file on your HD?), corrupted codec, badly burned disc, disc out of SVCD spec, conflicting codecs from a codec pack, and quite a few more. Have you put the file on your HD and played it from there? Will it play on any other computer or settop box? Is it a PAL-NTSC conflict? Will MPG2 files with a similar structure work in PowerDVD?. The answers aren't always simple.

I did describe my problem... I've already described enough as of how much I know.

It's just that I never got any SVCD to work. I have a DVD-Rom on my computer. Which I read from a couple places that DVD player should be able to play SVCD when I don't have SVCD codecs on my computer. So I tried copying the file onto my computer, removing the SVCD, and play it with powerdvd and it still won't work. When I ran the file with AVICodec, it gives me the information:

    Video : 623 MB, 1853 Kbps, 29.970 fps, 480*480 (1.0:1), = Elecard MPEG2 Video, Supported

I've installed Elecard MPEG2 Video... but the video plays, but just all messed up. I can hear the sound but it's got a lot of these noise in it. Similar files don't even have the image playing.

did you copy the svcd with isobuster? just doing a copy doesn't work all time.

you could also try repair the svcd mpg with tmpgenc, under file->mpeg tools->multiplex choose your svcd mpg as both video and audio source and select SVCD and make a new svcd mpg.

if it still doesn't work uninstall elecard crappy mpeg2 video codec and install this mpeg2 codec or reinstall powerdvd. you can remove codecs with dxman.

  7. I extracted it with WinIso. I know for sure that it's not the cd problem because I was never able to read any SVCD. I used to have VCD problems on my computer too. But if I just played it from my DVD-ROM, it would play. But my DVD-ROM won't play SVCD. I tried installing MPEG-2 Codec, it still doesn't work. I've also tried reinstalling PowerDVD, doesn't work either...

There was one change though, instead of being able to see some parts of the movie... now I can see nothing... The bottom half is all green and top is some parts green. This is after I removed Elecard and Installed MPEG2 Codec...

I was just wondering, could it be because I have other codecs that messes up this one?

WinISO doesn't remove the mode2/xa header. Use ISObuster instead. Then play the mpeg with PowerDVD, not Windows Media Player.

Yes, that is a definite posibility. If you put in a codec pack or other incompatible codecs, it can cause all kinds of problems. You might try the program Baldrick suggested, dxman, to remove unecessary codecs. You should only install codecs as needed. I use AVIcodec, Gspot and Video ToolBox to see which codecs I need before installing them. Codec conflicts are a common problem. AVIcodec will show which ones you presently have installed and you may see some conflicts right away.
