Hey guys, sorry for the new thread but I wanted to update. I now have isolated my networking problem with my computer. To copy a 60 mb file from the other pc to this one it took 2 min. at about 1mbps or slowr according to the task mngr. To do the same thing on the other pc it took only a few seconds to copy it and task mngr reported the xfer rate at about 10mbps. What's the deal with my end, I have tried everything and am really frustrated.
    Thanks.

Oh and one more thing, my CPU usage jumps to 100% when I copy a file from the other pc to my pc. The CPU usage stays normal on the other pc when i do the same thing.

Are both your computers running at 100TX?

A couple of things you might check:

Right click on My Network Places (either on Desktop or in Control Panel)
    Select Properties
Right click on Local Area Connection
    Select Properties
Make sure QoS Packet Scheduler is UNCHECKED

Now Click on Configure under your LAN Adapter
    Click on the Advanced tab
Make sure LinkSpeed is set to Auto-Negotiate
Make sure Receive Buffer is set to 64K Bytes

You might also want to check for any driver updates for your LAN card (NIC).

Are both your computers running at 100TX?
As greg12 said, make sure your LAN card is showing 100mb (not 10). Download and install the free program AIDA32. It has a network section that will tell you a lot about your LAN connecting including the connected speed.

lastly, I would swap the the cat-5 cables on the two machines and retry the test.

Ok, I did as you suggested. All drivers are up to date. NO CHANGE, everything on my computer still transfers extremely slowly and my CPU usage jups to 100% again. It doesn't make sense, I mean my compuer is still more powerful than the Dell and the Dell is working fine.

I DID HOWEVER find something that I think may be the culprit. In network connections, I have my LAN adapter and then my computer also has a 1394 adapter listed there as LAN or high speed internet. Well I have nothing hooked up to my Firewire ports AT ALL and when I go into the set up a network wizard, the stupid 1394 adapter is always coming up saying that that's the way I connect to the network which IS NOT THE CASE! I want to remove it temporarily from my network connections but I don't know how. Does anyone know how to remove something like that...but not permanently?

In my case the 1394 adapter is built into the motherboard and can be turned off in the BIOS (just like serial ports, built-in audio, etc.). An add-in PCI card could just be removed.

I suppose you could go into my computer, device manager and "disable" the 1394 adapter in this profile but a better test would be to turn it off or remove it.
