  1. Is it possible to open VOB files directly in Tmpgenc with some plug-in?
Some commercial encoding progarams have this feature. I also read somewhere in a forum that if you have powerDVD software installed you will be able to do this. But I havent been able to. If someone knows how to do it, pls help me.
    Thanks.

Generally no because TMPGenc has no AC3 decoder. If you demultiplex first you can load the m2v directly, but I don't know why you would ever want to do any of this. The file would be decoded by direct show filters which are horribly unstable for re-encoding purposes.

Just use dvd2avi. Its a frameserver so you ARE accessing the vob directly so to speak. It only takes a few minutes to process (less than demultiplexing) and it guarantees stability. Also if you are an NTSC user it allows you to use forced film which you really need. With dvd2avi and either VFAPI or Avisynth you can essentially load the vob directly into any encoder you like.

  3. Thanks Adam for your response.
Some commercial encoders like intervideo and i'mtooripper take VOBs directly and encode them to other formats like VCD, SVCD etc.. so I was thinking it would be nice to do the same using tmpgenc.. but it looks like it is not possible!
Anyway, thanks for taking the time to reply.

  4. TMPGEnc has an MPEG-2 plug-in that will allow you to open VOBs directly. However, adam is correct in that it does not have an AC3 decoder. You can demux the VOBs to video/audio streams for authoring or otherwise manipulating.
